The popular hangout Jefferson Place faces an uncertain future after a Sunday morning fire raged through the historic downtown structure, gutting the patio, kitchen and attic and heavily damaging the rest of the two-story building.
Jefferson Place first opened in 1979 and since then has become a favorite gathering spot for Tupelo residents of all ages. Mike Armour, director of Mississippi's Appalachian Regional Commission Office, said he was at the grand opening 28 years ago and has frequented the establishment many times since.
