Way back when the Daily Journal came out with the Scene I was excited. Although web sites like TupeloJoe and some others keep us informed, I thought it would be cool if more people got to read about the local bands, venues, restaurants and etc. Although there have been a few local bands and artist highlighted in articles, for the most part the Scene seems to focus on acts that play in Starkville or Oxford. I am amazed when the feature article is about some obsure artist performing at a coffee shop or some new wave artist performing in some art house that 10 people will go see. There have been no music reviews of local bands or performances. There is almost always a write up on some band playing at Ricks Cafe but not at Benjamin's. The general public isn't aware of the talent that plays at some of the bars and restaurants around here. The Tupelo "scene" is pretty good but very few people know about it. Wouldn't it be cool to hear some news on new bands forming or who is leaving which band. What about reviewing some of the accoustic acts that play at Woody's, Fusion,Bogarts, Benjamin's, and etc?

I agree!! Our scene needs help!!! How do we get them to notice?

Just an idea, but why doesn't Sheena add a local interest page each week? Spotlight a local musician or group and have all the locals, venues and musicians, give or post info on themselves and what they are doing. Maybe a Q & A with a local artist, Add a revue of a venue or person/persons of interest, etc. Maybe a "Buzz Box" @ happenings or changes going on in the Tupelo music scene. I would like to think there would be an interest amoung readers as to the inner workings of the whole thing. Just an idea, maybe someone will take it and run with it. If someone knows how to forward this thread to her please do so!
